What Is A Drafting Table?
February 23, 2009 5:14 pm HomeA drafting table, also known as drawing board, drawing table or architect’s table, is, in the traditional sense, a type of multi-use desk which can be employed for any sort of drawing, writing or spontaneous planning on a large piece of paper or for reading a large format book or other outsized document or for drafting accurate technical illustrations.
During the Industrial Revolution draftsmanship became a more specialized trade and drafting tables gradually moved out of the libraries and offices of most gentlemen. These tables are enjoying resurgence in popularity, especially among people who want to work at home and need drafting tables for their hobbies or business. It’s fairly easy to make one yourself, requiring special skills only if you want to make it adjustable. Once you make the table at a height that’s comfortable to you, there will be no need for adjustments anyway.
