Sometimes it is necessary to decide which vendor contracts to renew and which ones not to.  The best way to do this would be to track the vendors in the production department because they know who they order from, how much, and how often.  A good plant floor manufacturing execution system would help with the tracking of this information.  Orders can be entered into the system daily and this way, there are no wrong filings.  When you want to see the quantity of materials ordered from a specific vendor as compared to another, you can run a report.  The report will tell you whether it’s worth it to maintain any relationship with each vendor or whether you can combine the orders with one vendor.
